The Silent Salesperson

Typography is the silent salesperson in any digital ecosystem. It conveys emotion, establishes hierarchy, and guides the reader's eye through complex information without them even realizing it.

The Rule of Three

Never use more than three font families in a design system. Ideally, stick to two:

  • A bold, distinctive display font for headers (e.g., National 2 Compressed or Aeonik).
  • A highly legible sans-serif for body copy (e.g., Inter or Roboto).

Contrast is Everything

Ensure there is extreme contrast in size and weight between your headers and your body text. If your header is 72pt Bold, your body text should be 24pt Regular. This extreme contrast creates a clear visual hierarchy.

Tracking and Leading

  • Headings: Tighten the tracking (letter-spacing) on massive headings to make them feel cohesive and powerful.
  • Body: Loosen the leading (line-height) on body paragraphs to give the text room to breathe, ideally around 1.5.
